Introduction
First Kick Academy strives to provide the best soccer training program to the community thru a structured training curriculum, well trained coaches and a fun positive environment. The program follows the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) structure which teaches skill that are age specific. This ensures that the child gains confidence and stays enthusiastic with the sport.
Our Coaches
The coaches of First Kick Academy comes from all walks of life and are not limited to professional soccer players. The coaches have to go through an interview, an internal training module and OJT (on job training) before they can start coaching the kids. Most importantly, Firstk Kick Academy chooses coaches that are fun and passionate individuals that bring out the Academy's beliefs.
The Internal Training Module a.k.a. our Staff Accreditation course is a specially designed course conducted by A.C.E. (Academy for Coaches Education). In A.C.E., the coaches get to learn more about grassroot development and the different aspects of child development to help them understand how to best conduct a training session. Besides training our own staff, A.C.E. also conduct coaches education for the public for those who are interested to know more about coaching.

Friendly Game with Indonesia Contingent
On the 3rd of July 2010, First Kick Academy hosted our friends from Indonesia. ASIOP- APACINTI is a soccer academy based in Jakarta, West Java. The contingent numbering around 120 made their journey and touched down at Changi Airport on the 2nd of July before embarking on a series for friendly games with First Kick Academy. Our boys who had a mini team training session the week before were very excited and nervous knowing from past experiences that Indonesian teams are always very skillfull and strong. And true enough, we had very challenging encounters in all age groups. The games were as follows:
ASIOP A vs First Kick PM U8
ASIOP B vs First Kick PM U10
ASIOP C vs First Kick AM U10 (Team Training)
ASIOP D vs First Kick PM U12
ASIOP E vs First Kick PM U14
ASIOP F vs First Kick U14 (Team Training)
We will definitely be looking to host many more events like these as from what we saw, the kids and in fact the parents were really enjoying the experience!

Academy for Coaches Education(A.C.E)
The new batch of coaches attended an internal training course for coaches conducted by our very own Academy for Coaches Education (A.C.E). The First Kick Staff Accreditation Course which is designed to expose and educate new coaches on the "How, Where and When of Coaching" was conducted over a period of 3 weekday nights. The participants who took time off work and family went through a series of theory and practical sessions and took home many important pointers that will definitely be beneficial for their early development as a youth coach. The coaches were also educated on the learning and behavioural development of specific age groups. The group discussions incorporated in the course is designed to improve confidence of the new coaches. The course, conducted by the Asia Football Group Managing Director , Mr Jimmy Beh and myself was an iniative to bring the level of new and current coaches up to mark. We believe Quality Coaches creates Quality Players. Through this course also , though having time constraints, the Instructors managed to spot a handful of coaches who has the potential to go on and head classes at our academy in time to come. All in all, I must say the course was a successful one.
Comments from Participants
"It is a professionally successful workshop truly worth participating."
- Nazir Abdul Hamid, Aspiring Coach
"Fantastic knowledge from course instructors. This can only be done from people with experience."
- Aw Boon Wei, Degree in Sports Science
"Although it was a short summarised course, good learning points to note with regards to coaching kids. To have better picture on how you handle kids in various and unpredictable situations. The instructors were competent. I have to stress that playing level experience alone is not sufficient to conduct coaching for kids. You need to lower yourself to get them in.
And must have the patience."
- Erza Aripin, Former National Youth Player
Khairul Asyraf

Cold Storage Kids Run 2010
It's the first year we gathered the kids in First Kick Academy to join such a run. I must say that it was quite an experience seeing the kids running together and the parents cheering for them. The other great sight is the F1 Pit Stop and the race track that will once again be filled with smell of gasoline coming september. We do hope that this become an annual event where our kids and family can participate in and have fun.

Lionel Lewis GoalKeeper Coaching
Lionel Lewis will be working with First Kick Academy to develop a GoalKeeper Training Curriculum that is catered to players from 10 to 16 years of age. The training program will be made available to primary and secondary school to help them develop good goalkeepers that will lower the scoreline of the interschool competition.
GoalKeeping has always been an area that coaches neglect when it comes to formal training. The usual practice is for them to select the tall, nimble or big size player to be at the goal. We hope that the fun and structured curriculum that we develop will create interest and a formal training for children who are not exposed to Goalkeeping.
We are on Facebook!
We are proud to put ourselves on Facebook, not that it's a big deal but it's our continuous effort to connect with our kids and parents. Our Facebook will be used to update you with all the events and activities photos that we have taken. If you are not on facebook yet, please get an account. It's never too late to do so.
First Kick 5v5 Fiesta (Term 2)
First Kick 5v5 Fiesta is a new activity introduce every 2 terms to give the children a motivation to train hard in soccer. We realise that the kids are really excited when it comes to tournaments of this kind. That's why we have inserted it at the end of Term 2, Term 4 and the final one which is "The 5v5 Soccer Festival" where international teams will participate.
Our boys from the Team Training Program went through two busy weekends when they took part in a couple of events.
On the 14th of March, the U10 and U12 boys participated in the Little Masters League 5-a-side Competition organised by The Cage. It was a memorable experience especially for the U12 as this team has just been formed for tournaments. They managed to get very good results however they didnt manage to proceed to the next stage.
The U10 team which has been training together for some time played some scintilating football and showed understanding and team cohesion throughout the tournament.
They managed to clinch the 2nd Position and won for themselves some interesting prizes courtesy of The Cage.
All in all it was a good tournament as the boys together with the coaches, Coach Khidhir and Coach Khairul definitely had a fun time participating. They definitely brought home a lot of learning positives from the games and the competition.
The following Saturday, 20th March the U10 team was invited by FAS for a football festival conducted by FIFA Instructors with the help of local coaches. Our kids were exposed to a festival like football training cum friendly competition. The rain didnt hamper the spirits of the boys an in fact they were raring and more eager to play and train. The most important thing was to see the kids have fun at the same time learning and acquiring new skills.
We would definitely like to have our kids take part in events like this in future to expose them to different aspects and experiences.
FIFA Futsal Course Experience - Coach Jimmy Beh
(Australia Sydney 9th to 13th Nov 2009)
Futsal has always been the second sport to Football in many different parts of the world. But in recent years, Futsal has gained much popularity all over the world.
I attended a professional course conducted by FIFA in 2009, and I must admit that I have learnt a lot from the course and the close relation Futsal has to football. The quick movement and control in Futsal are both important ingredient to a great footballer.
FIFA instructor Mr Wai Chung Tsang was the chief instructor for the FIFA Futsal Course. The course content was very comprehensive, covering both theory and practical sessions. Ex-professional, national team players and top coaches in Australia, who have vast experience in the development of the game, attended the course.
This is another added advantage for First Kick Academy players, as the coaches are constantly upgrading themselves, learning, building networks and bringing the best coaching program and practices to improve the academy.
It was a great experience and I hope more people will pick up Futsal in time to come.
Cheers!
